Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmed Al-Hajjar inspected the General Directorate of Local Administrations and Councils.

Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Hajjar visited the General Directorate of Local Administrations and Councils this morning. He met with Acting Director General Faten Abu Hassan, heads of departments and divisions, and employees, and listened to their demands and the directorate's administrative and logistical needs.

Hajjar praised "the role played by the directorate, with all its departments, in maintaining diligent and active work, and maintaining the administration as a reference for municipalities in developing and strengthening municipal work, especially as we are entering an electoral phase, upon which the Lebanese are counting to exercise their right to choose their representatives in municipal and mayoral councils."

Hajjar stressed "the need to monitor citizens' affairs and transactions," noting that "the administration will undergo modernization and development to facilitate their affairs."

  The Minister of Interior and Municipalities Judge Bassam Mawlawi strongly condemned the Israeli attacks that targeted the municipal building in Nabatieh and its surroundings, which led to the martyrdom of the mayor, a number of municipal council members and civil servants, as well as the martyrdom of a civil defense member and the wounding of others and the injury of innocent citizens.
Mawlawi said that the targeting of the municipality building occurred while coordinating relief work and preparing aid for distribution to the people in Mand and the villages of the region who are steadfast in the face of the war against them and Lebanon. Mawlawi expressed his condolences to the Lebanese for the martyrs of public service and duty and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, and within the framework of the Municipal Empowerment and Resilience Project (MERP), UNDP and UN-Habitat are pleased to invite you to the MERP Conference on Empowering Local Governance and Administrative Reforms in Lebanon. The event will take place at the Mövenpick Hotel on Tuesday, 10 September 2024.
The conference will bring together thought leaders, local government officials, donors, development partners, policymakers, and academics to explore innovative approaches to local governance reforms and effective administrative practices in municipalities. This event will also provide a unique platform to celebrate MERP's achievements over the past five years.
